We have cast the Global Warming Devils from the cash machines of JP Morgan Chase and UBS -- the Swiss bank that invests in the Koch brothers and climate change skepticism. In our church we believe that the natural disasters are messages from a living thing and we're teaching each other to listen and pray. Earthalujah!

More people in my town seem to understand the power and importance of climate change from Sandy's interruption of our lives. And she ended some of our lives, too. We treat Sandy like we do most foreigners - we misunderstand her, and accuse her of violence when our own violence goes by invented names like "national interests" and "power." We need to change our consumption habits completely, but Sandy's wind and waves blew the fence-sitters into New York Sound.

Preachers deal in terrifying fires of Hell, but not necessarily terrifying math, so reading this important piece and getting the numbers straight is warmly encouraged by senior officials in the Church of Stop Shopping. The great contradiction we face is our silence (silence that can come in the form of too much noise) in the face of this greatest of emergencies.
